We're overjoyed to be bringing in a 2020 lot from a farm that made quite the impression last year - Florencio Villatoro's El Diamante! The Villatoro family is prolific in Huehuetenango, producing a wide range of specialty coffees sure to satifsy any palate. Last year we featured El Diamante - and we're very happy to have this year's lot in to compare. Many factors influence the flavor in the end cup, so there's always some variation between lots, but we're impressed by the consistency and quality that Florencio's lots exhibit year over year.
El Diamante 2020 is a smooth, mellow lot of coffee with a milk chocolate note that shows up in a big way. We're also tasting some juicy peach-like notes that sit above the chocolate base, and just a hint of kiwi-like brightness that adds some complexity to the cup without too much acidity. Many thanks to the Villatoros for their coffee this year, and hopefully for future years of delicious beans as well!

I've always like coffees from Huehuetenango. This is a very good coffee. It has medium body, chocolatey front, and fruit in the back. The description was correct when it says peachy taste. I had the 2019 lot and remembered I liked it. That's why I made sure to have this years El Diamonte as well.

Smooth and mellow, Diamante 2020 is sure to please. The "nose" of the dry beans is nutty, reminiscent of peanut-butter, but the flavor profile of the brewed coffee is not. Notes of smooth milk chocolate combine with a subtle acidic spike of fruit to give the impression of Diamante 2020 operating within a middle ground, bounded both high and low. Medium-bodied with a bit of complexity. Warning: may disappear from your mug in short order!

This coffee worked great as a pour over. I would recommend a higher temperature around 95 or 96C. The coffee has a really nice fragrance. This coffee is quite complex with a mildly acidic front, the peach accent running through with the kiwi accent sort of hiding or coming out at times. The coffee has a fairly light to medium body after the front and has a very delicious finish with the chocolate notes distinctive. It is a very clean tasting coffee. Really enjoyed this one!

The smell of the fresh beans is intoxicating and the brew is even better. I’ve always been a fan of coffees from Huehuetenango and this one is my favorite yet.

I always enjoy this coffee grower. One of my favorites and one of the few coffees I enjoy as much as east African varieties.

The smooth medium chocolatey body starts you off, then the faint fruity peach flavor hits you subtly, bringing a wonderful sweetness to the flavor. Needless to say this one brought a smile to my face. I am looking forward to the next lot from El Diamante.
