Rwandan coffee is usually pretty tasty, but it tastes even better when there's an awesome story to go along with it. The Gisuma cooperative was founded in 2009 by a group of women farmers with the goal of improving their livelihoods by growing higher quality coffee crops. By pooling together their resources they have been able to invest in growing and milling infrastructure, and have furnished their 182 co-op members with health insurance. As the cooperative continues to advance their techniques, several Gisuma members have seen their coffees recieve top awards at Rwandan national competitions.
These luscious red bourbon coffee beans pack a punch when it comes to flavor, with a juicy red grape note providing a great body to the cup. A subtle honeysuckle note provides some sweetness and a touch of vegetal taste. A hint of tartaric acid makes this coffee slightly reminiscent of wine, which lends a bit more character to the grape note and makes for a fantastic finish. We love this coffee, and we hope you do too!

Wonderfully mellow not overly sweet grape on the front honeysuckle notes in the back.

I REALLY enjoyed the Gisuma, I enjoyed it both as a cold brew and hot coffee.

Tried a smaller grind/longer extraction than usual in my Moka pot and based on smell was worried I had burnt it. To my delight that was not the case: I got an extremely smooth cup of coffee. Haven't picked up on the honeysuckle yet but the grape flavors are certainly obvious. The aftertaste has lots of dryness like red wine and less of the normal coffee aftertaste. However, the flavors in the coffee just aren't among my favorites. Delicious and definitely worth a try! I'm a bit sad the quality is wasted on me.

I usually prefer more smoky full-bodied coffees with tobacco or chocolate flavor notes than this blend, so I enjoyed the very full body, but not necessarily the individual flavor notes. My wife, however, loves the crisper, more muscatel and fruity notes in a coffee - which are not favorites of mine - but she LOVES this coffee. We both enjoy the uniqueness of the flavor, and it even makes a great iced coffee. One of my favorite things about this coffee, and something my wife also made significant note of is the story of how the Gisuma cooperative is a women's mission in Rwanda to bring truly beautiful coffee to people around the world. I would purchase many coffees from them, they have high-quality well-processed coffee with truly unique flavor and fragrance notes. This is an amazing coffee!

Although, not my fav, I admire and WILL continue to support these producers as a woman. The coffee is something like I have never tasted before, and although I do not care for a particular taste/note, as it may be, this is worth a try as, it is quite unique in flavor and an experience. This coffee may wind up being combined to tone it down. I want to see and taste more coffees from this group.

Smooth flavor, not bitter. Didn't care for the grape flavor though. Of course, this is personal taste and I don't feel it reflects the coffee's quality in a negative way.

This is one of the best coffees I've ever had -- from anywhere. I absolutely loved it. The flavor was amazing, no acidity, full flavor, smooth. Just wonderful.
