The Narina (or Narino) coffee region is close to the equator, allowing for the single hectare farms the ability to plant their coffee plantations at high elevations (1600-2100m). Since the farmers are able to pant their coffee trees so high the plants are exposed to the rich volcanic ash in the soil. The extensive nutrients present in the soil allow the coffees flavors to be unique and multi faceted. Each farmer still sun dries their coffee harvests on their small patios outside of their homes.
